About Athena Fund
Founded in 2006 as a non-profit organization, the Athena Fund is dedicated to empowering teachers in Israel by providing them with professional tools and enhancing their status. The fund operates in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Teachers' Union, Bank Massad, business entities, funds, and private donors who share its vision.
The fund’s first program, A Digital Toolbox for Every Teacher, was designed to equip teachers and kindergarten teachers with advanced technological tools. As part of the program, more than 30,800 laptops, tablets, and iPads have been distributed to 3,078 schools and kindergartens across 183 local authorities throughout Israel, alongside professional training courses.
Launched in 2021, the ImagineBox program provides interactive and innovative learning spaces that provide students with a unique learning experience through advanced technologies such as walls and floor projections, virtual reality (VR), and more. The first ImagineBox was established in June 2022 at the WIZO Nachlat Yehuda Youth Village, and today, approximately 90 ImagineBoxes operate nationwide. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, this number is expected to reach 100.
The ImagineBox implements immersive learning, allowing students to fully engage with the subject matter through cutting-edge interactive environments. Thus, they can embark on virtual journeys to historical periods, explore natural phenomena, conduct scientific experiments, take digital trips around the world, and much more—all without leaving the classroom. This approach enhances learning and comprehension, encourages student engagement, and helps develop essential 21st-century skills.
Beyond their educational benefits, some of the new ImagineBoxes serve as supportive spaces for students and adults coping with the effects of traumatic events, including post-trauma. The immersive environment helps alleviate emotional distress and contributes to the coping process. Additionally, the ImagineBox is used for commemorating the fallen, featuring digital exhibits that honor their memory and tell their stories.
The fund’s programs are accompanied by professional surveys that assess their impact on the education system. To review the survey results click here
Additional cities, local councils, and regional councils are awaiting donations that will enable them to establish more ImagineBoxes — bringing advanced and empowering learning environments to students and teachers.
